WE MUST MAKE GREAT Media.
“Good for a Christian movie” should offend us.
Somewhere along the way, Christian filmmakers became comfortable with a lower standard. We learned we could make safe films for a captured audience, knowing that as long as the message was right, that audience would support almost anything we made.
We believe we can do better.
For centuries, Christian artists created some of the greatest works in human history. No one stands before Michelangelo’s David and says, “That’s pretty good for a Christian sculpture.” It is simply great art.
Why should film be any different?
At Not Ashamed Media, we believe story and character come before delivering a message. Faith should exist naturally within the lives of our characters, with all the questions, contradictions, failures, doubts, and beauty that come with it.
Stories that invite an audience to think and wrestle can stay with them far longer than stories that simply tell them what to think. There’s a reason Christ so often taught through parables. He told stories and trusted people to engage with them.
And audiences are changing. After years of franchises, formulas, algorithms, and increasingly massive spectacles, people are hungry for something human again. Something authentic. Something that feels lived rather than manufactured.
Technology has also changed what independent filmmakers can accomplish. Great cinema no longer requires a studio-sized budget. It requires vision, discipline, craft, and a story worth telling.
We don't want to make movies that are “good enough” because they carry the right message.
We want to make great movies.
And we believe the story should earn the right to say something.
